Program Associate
The Program Associate works closely with students in an intensive mentoring capacity, assumes responsibility for significant program elements, and manages a variety of general administrative duties.
Essential Functions
- Talk with and mentor students on a weekly basis to build supportive, caring, and authentic, relationships.
- Outreach to teachers, counselors, and other referral partners.
- Liase with summer partners and place students on experiential education programs.
- Assist with data collection and documentation for an evaluation and outcomes measurement.
- Assist with event coordination.
- Assist with general administrative duties including answering phones, processing mail, routing information, and filing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least two years of work experience after college
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Self-starter who is comfortable in a close-knit team-oriented setting
- Flexibility and eagerness to learn and work on different tasks as needed
- Strong command of Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with database operations
- Bi-lingual English-Spanish a plus

Office Manager
We are looking for an energetic, talented and experienced Office Manager to be a part of our dynamic and growing team in New York City. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent administrative and organizational skills, and who enjoys putting together an efficient and well-run office. Summer Search is an equal opportunity employer.
Essential Functions
- General administrative duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining the office, organizing and routing information, scheduling appointments, booking travel, filing, taking minutes at board meetings, and coordinating internal workshops and events.
- Development assistance functions include management of the grants calendar, event logistics, processing gifts, proofreading and sending out correspondences, Raiser’s Edge constituent entry, and producing weekly development reports.
- Assist with Summer Search’s PR initiatives, including the annual report, newsletters and website maintenance
- Assist in the running of daily office operations, including managing organization files, answering phones, and undertaking mailing projects
- Undertake special projects at the direction of the Executive Director, Development Director, and Program Director
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science/Art degree
- Minimum 2 years related experience
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Strong command of Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with database operations
- Flexibility and willingness to learn and work on different tasks as needed
- Self-starter who is comfortable in a close-knit team-oriented setting

Director of Development
Summer Search New York City’s growth requires us to double our staff size and increase our budget to over $1.6M in 2008. The New York City office is entirely locally and privately funded and historically all development has been conducted by the Executive Director. In partnership with the Executive Director, the Development Director will spearhead development efforts as Summer Search New York City continues to grow. This position creates a dynamic possibility for the right candidate with a mix of entrepreneurial spirit and passion for our mission.
Essential Functions
- Developing and executing Summer Search New York City’s annual fundraising plan
- Securing financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations; overseeing the tracking of donor management in Raiser’s Edge
- Overseeing staff responsible for Raiser’s Edge data entry and gift processing
- Developing and maintaining ongoing relationships with major donors ($25,000 or above)
- Creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors ($2,500 to $10,000)
- Overseeing organization of the annual Gala, as well as overseeing all other special events
- Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
The Ideal Candidate HAs
- B.A. (required), M.A. (a plus)
- At least three to five years experience in development, preferably in social or educational service programs
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and communication skills
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge (a plus)
- Interest in making a 3-5 year commitment
