Giving Back

Thanks to Our Student Ambassadors for Reaching Out and Giving Back!

The High School Ambassador program is being piloted in three Summer Search offices this year, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. The idea behind the program is twofold, first for students to give back to Summer Search and help in the recruitment efforts of new students. Secondly, it presents leadership opportunities for students who have returned home from their summer experiences empowered to enact some kind of change within their community. The High School Ambassador program is a forum to students to come together, and to talk about and address the issues that they face in their schools and communities.

In Seattle, nine Summer Searchers have stepped up to be High School Ambassadors. Their most significant effort this year was the creation of an information handbook, tentatively titled, “Knowledge for College.” This handbook is an overview of the myths and realities surrounding colleges, the application process, and career preparation. The information was originally presented to students in the Junior College Workshop, presented by Summer Search College Advisor Jennifer Hahn. Plans are in place to distribute the handbook to career counselors in high schools that Summer Search serves in order to share this useful information with their peers.
